The list below includes possible scenarios leading up to the event and the action we will take. This is not an exhaustive list of all possibilities but outlines the most-likely scenarios given the current information available and will be used in conjunction with the Youth Event Safety Protocols I’ve developed and published. We reserve the right to modify, update, or add to these scenarios as the event approaches. These scenarios were developed with the guidance of the USA Triathlon Return to Sport Initiative. Any updates will be communicated with all registered event participants via email.

SCENARIO 1. Event is held with no restrictions on its scheduled date.

The event will proceed as scheduled with the only changes being those documented in the Youth Event Safety Protocols. This scenario would apply if Phase III of the USA Triathlon Return to Sport Initiative is applicable.

SCENARIO 2. Modified event held on its scheduled date.

Several stages have been developed for a modified event depending on city/county guidance at the time of the event. Additional details about each stage of the modification will be provided as the event approaches. This scenario would apply if Phase II of the USA Triathlon Return to Sport Initiative is applicable.

  • Stage 1 – Minor modifications to event schedule and procedures.

    • Spectators will be allowed

    • Corralled start times for participants

    • Modified on-course hydration station operations

    • Pre-packaged food/snack available for athletes after the event

    • No on-site awards ceremony.

    • Increased distancing, especially in confined areas such as the finish line, transition, and kids corral

    • Masks required in areas where minimum social distancing is difficult to maintain; transition, finish line, and kids corral

  • Stage 2 – Moderate modifications to event schedule and procedures.

    • All items in Stage 1 above with the below additional adjustments

    • Scheduled race packet pickup times with packet pickup only allowed with certain assigned time window for each participant

    • No race morning packet pickup

    • Required early bike check-in (triathlon events only)

    • Self-service only on-course hydration stations

    • No post race food/snacks available

  • Stages 3 & 4 – Moderate to extreme modifications to event schedule and procedures.

    • All items in Stage 1 & 2 above with the below additional adjustments

    • Limited spectators allowed

    • Drive through packet pickup only with scheduled packet pickup times for each participant

    • Required early bike check-in with schedule check-in times for each participant (triathlon events only)

    • Additional decreases in participant limits and corralled start times

    • No on-course hydration stations

    • Additional increase safety and hygiene protocols enacted

Again, these stage are subject to modification and additional details will be provided in communication via email to registered participants prior to the event.

SCENARIO 3. Cancel the event in its entirety.

The scheduled live event would not be held and the Live Event Cancellation Policy would apply to all participants registered for the live event. This scenario would apply if Phase I of the USA Triathlon Return to Sport Initiative is applicable.
